AIP Quick Elimination Guide

Autoimmune diseaases include hundreds of medical conditions that are due to the body’s own immune system attacking its own organs. For example, thyroiditis is an attack on the thyroid gland, Crohn’s disease attacks the gastrointestinal system, psoriasis attacks the integumentary system.
It can be frustrating that autoimmune conditions cannot be cured. Therapies now are aimed at symptom management. Recent studies have shown Leaky Gut syndrome to be an underlying factor in autoimmune diseases, and that healing leaky gut can produce symptom management and help control flare-ups.
One nutritional protocol is shown to be highly effective in healing leaky gut and managing symptoms of autoimmune diseases, but people tend to become overwhelmed when presented with such a restrictive diet. The autoimmune protocol, or AIP, is simply an elimination diet that removes foods thought to damage the gut, while adding healing foods to strengthen the immune system. For more details on this, see my blog. In addition to the removal of certain foods, you’ll want to add fermented foods (except soy-based ones) to add beneficial probiotics. A digestive enzyme supplement is also helpful.
